My brother's family had the activity for Friday, and they chose water balloon activities. They brought 1,000 balloons and it took a really long time to get them all done. I'm not sure if that's how many they ended up doing but there were a lot of water balloons.
The first game was a balloon toss. The kids had to get into pairs - and that was sort of hard because they all wanted to be with each other but could only have one partner. The hardest companionship was Ben and Marissa - they are always together and really wanted to be with someone else. They all started off at the same place and tossed the balloon back and forth, taking a step back if they were successful in catching the balloon.
The second game was in teams. We split the kids up, trying to make the teams even with a mix of older and younger kids. Each team had a spoon and had to get 10 balloons to the other side of the "field". Caden and I held the bags but we didn't get wet.
The third game was just a simple water balloon fight. You know, just tossing the water filled balloons at those around you. Unfortunately, some of the balloons were tossed a little too hard and contacted kids in the face, or slapped on the back or belly. It was actually painful, and Marissa ended up with a bloody nose (she bleeds easily).
After all the balloons were gone, the kids were fantastic cleaners. They each got a bag and picked up as many broken balloons as they could. I was glad that they were all willing workers. Of course, the promise of popsicles was probably helpful in getting them motivated.
There were several spectators, sweating on the sidelines.
It was a nice way to spend a warm afternoon.
