Bridgeport Homecoming

The neighbor kids invited us to the homecoming parade for the high school. We decided to go (10/12) - there was candy involved. We met our friends from the library story time so that was an added bonus. In my opinion we needed to find a different place to watch it though, and we might if we go next year, because we were looking right into the lowering sun. Not really a big deal, except that I couldn't take very good pictures. But really, it is the candy we went for anyway... and to see our neighbor on her class float (not pictured).

The fire engines were really loud.

Domonique had a hard time deciding which was worse - the blazing sun or the loud noises. She tried to protect herself from both.

Hustling to get the loot. Notice Ben is on the sidewalk still... Kemiah was so sweet because she would get two pieces of candy and give one to him.

High School Marching Band.

Family group shot - that's my shadow so you know I was there!

A new situation

Harmonie has always preferred to suck her first two fingers on her left hand. She is our second finger sucker (four others were thumb suckers, and we still have one using the pacifier when she sleeps). Anyway, the other day we noticed that Harmonie's middle finger was red. I looked closer and saw this...

It seems to have gotten worse, mostly because it can't heal because she sucks on it quite a bit. So I decided to try and do something to help it heal. I put some ointment on a piece of gauze, put it on the finger and then wrapped the entire hand in an ace wrap.

She can still crawl and play and stuff, but she can't suck on her fingers, so I thought that would help the finger heal. I tried to put her down for a nap with it on, and I gave her a pacifier to replace the fingers. Unfortunately, she didn't go for it. In fact, you can see that she tossed it out of her bed... the white spot on the floor is the pacifier. She normally just chews on and plays with the pacifier so it wasn't filling the void that she felt without her fingers. She wouldn't suck on any of her other fingers so I was at a loss.

I ended up taking the wrap off so that she could go to sleep. Then I snuck in to see if I could swap her fingers for the pacifier. It almost worked but she realized what was going on, pulled it out and automatically put the fingers back in her mouth. Fortunately, she doesn't keep them in her mouth the entire time she is sleeping.

I'm sure this will all work itself out and her finger will heal. It doesn't seem to cause her any pain or discomfort so we'll see what happens. Silly girl.

Price Nature Center

I don't mind Autumn if it's nice weather, and today was just that. Because it is later in fall some of the trees were completely bare but it was still beautiful. We all had a wonderful time walking through the woods, climbing fallen trees, and trying to stay out of the mud.

And a family picture as well! Happy Autumn!

Johnson's Giant Pumpkin Farm

Tons of pictures in this one! Our friends, Tamara and Steve, came up from Detroit to go to the pumpkin farm. They invited anyone to join them so we decided to do just that. We met up with them at the farm around 2:00 yesterday and it was so fun to see them. We watched the pumpkin launch - the first of four because we were there until 5! It was a bit chilly but I brought hats and some mittens so we made it work.

There's the 40 foot tall trebuchet that launches pumpkins over 400 feet.

This is what happens to the pumpkin when it lands. The coolest part is that you see the pumpkin explode and then hear it a second later. It was just neat to witness the delay between sight and sound.

Chainsaw wood carver. Amazing!

Tiny goats. They were so cute!

Llamas, so soft.

We thought it was cute that the sheep were so interested in Harmonie. Then we noticed it was trying to get our doughnuts underneath her. Tricky sheep!

Here's another launch!

Harmonie got stung by a yellow jacket - you can see the redness above her lip. Can you see how swollen it was? Poor thing.

I love this picture of Domonique. She walked around with her hands in her pockets and it was so cute!

Fancy pigeon!

Pheasants... amazing colors!

Xiomara and Kemiah on top of an old fire engine.

Lots of old farm equipment.

What a cute bunch!

Blacksmith shop.

Watching them make doughnuts! So delicious!

Waiting for the last pumpkin launch of the day, just before we left.

Had to include the series for the last launch. Anyway, we had a great time at the pumpkin farm. It was the most time we spent with Kevin in over week so that was great, too!
