So glad we did that

The weather has been a bit odd, but possibly normal in a way. It seems that Spring and Winter can't decide whose turn it is. I will just say that I am so glad that I sent the girls outside to play yesterday. They ate their lunch, rode bikes, drew with chalk and flew kites! It was a beautiful day and they were able to enjoy it. Today is quite chilly and we are expecting snow tomorrow. I'm sure Spring will come eventually.

Where, oh where, has Spring time gone?

OH where, oh where can it be? I am not really sure what's going on with our weather. (In general because lots of places have been having strange weather.) We had a very mild winter, with very little snow. After the groundhog predicted an early spring, we actually had spring like weather. It was absolutely glorious. Then freezing temps came back, and we actually had snow! (Nothing like what the Rocky Mountains received out west!) It is now the end of April and we are back to cold weather. I would really like to enjoy spring before summer hits. Then again, maybe we won't have summer this year.

Just yesterday it was all gone! It snowed again today so we have more white stuff covering the ground.

Crazy weather.

I'm only posting this for a written record of our crazy weather. Not that it really matters - and I'll probably never look back, but just in case.

Winter wasn't too bad. Thought Spring was coming but it took a really long time. We were still burning wood to warm our house through April. Went on vacation to MA and came home to warm weather. It was great for about 3 days, and we put the kids a/c unit in their window. Then  the temps dropped and things froze again. Had to light the furnace to warm us up. (The house got down to 61 degrees.) After a while of chilly weather we got warmer, then really warm so our window a/c unit went in. Used that for about a week and now it's down again - highs of 60's and lows of 40's. I just think it's crazy. People will say, "Well, that's weather in Michigan." It's a statement that can be made anywhere you live. I just think it's weird. I've lived here over three years and I don't remember this drastic fluctuation before. So we had to light a fire again this evening to warm the house back up. I guess we'll save money on the electric bill because we aren't running the a/c units.

A little bothersome.

Why is it the weather never does what I think it should? We get home from all our vacationing and I put away all the kids long sleeve shirts and pants because it's summer time and they need room in their drawers for their short sleeve shirts and shorts. It seemed like a good idea. Now the sky has been overcast for the past three days and it has been rainy so the house is a bit chilly and my kids have summer clothes to wear. They have all mentioned being a bit cool. Fortunately, they are tough and have moved on. I did tell them they could get socks on and if they were really uncomfortable I would get them pants but no one has asked. I'll just try to enjoy the coolness because I'm sure we'll have the hot, humid weather eventually.

I sure couldn't. I woke up to this...

It actually ended up leaving a pretty good covering. Thankfully, by the end of the day it was all gone. This weather is crazy. I am so ready for the Spring weather! I know it will come but I'm afraid it won't last and we'll zoom right into the hot, muggy weather of summer. The trick (as with all things in life) is to enjoy what you have right now. It really was pretty to watch the light snow flakes fall straight down to the green grass. That meant there was no blasting wind so I'll be thankful for that.

What happened to Spring?

All the snow was melted. It was gone and the temperatures were warming up. I'm sure it was like that for several places all over the world. Or maybe it was just here... We were so excited. Kevin and the kids worked in the garden to clean out the leftover stuff and Kevin took down the bails of straw around the chicken coop with the grand thoughts of Spring! Then WHAM! The temperature drops, the snow falls and then it freezes. Wow, it got really cold. Bummer. No more working outside. The poor chickens got stranded out in the yard. I found some sitting around the bails of straw with snow and ice on them. Poor things. I put them back in the coop so they could warm up. I will say that I have been happy with the amount of sunshine we have had the last couple days. Although it has still been cold - the wind is a killer - the warmth of the sun shinning through our windows is really nice. Spring will come, I know it will. It does every year and so it will come... I just wish it was already here. I did enjoy hearing the sound of the clinking branches when I took these pictures. I do enjoy listening to the snow crunch under my feet. I do like the cool, crisp scent in the air. I do like the clear night skies so I can see lots of stars (when I happen to be outside at night). There are good things so let's just enjoy them!
