Creative with cupcakes!

For the Women's General Broadcast, our ward RS decided to have a cupcake contest. I wanted to make cupcakes like my oldest sister, but decided we could just be creative instead of delicious and beautiful. Anyway, each of the girls wanted to make their own so we made some big ones and some mini ones - chocolate and red velvet. Then the girls had fun decorating.

Xiomara decided on a whale.

Kemiah chose a monster.

 Marissa chose an autumn theme.

Autumn colors and a leaf stencil, and powdered sugar.

Little girls entertained themselves while the rest of us worked.

I chose a water theme.

 Emily chose a back to school theme.

We all won prizes for our efforts!

Way to go girls! We had lots of fun and I'm sure we'll be eating cupcakes for a week!

Buddy Dates at the Movies

We found out about a theater that was showing free movies Friday mornings. I decided to have buddy time with the kids. Xiomara and Camdilyn went first (they saw Ratchet and Clank) - and Naomi came because I didn't want to leave her at home. We enjoyed some popcorn and a movie together, then went out for lunch and some play time. I think it went well and I'm sure everyone else will enjoy their turn, when it comes around.

Camdilyn got moved to the upper bed and she was very excited!

Naomi's crib is a little broken so I put her in the lower bed.

I don't know how long she'll stay here, 

but Camdilyn is happy about the upper bed.

Science at it's .... well, it's science.

Ben worked on an experiment and enjoyed filling the graduated cylinder to the tip top. I'm not sure he got done what he needed to get done, but he enjoyed seeing the properties of water at work.

Xiomara and Kemiah worked together to make a model of the planets in our solar system. This is what they came up with.

How did that happen?

Not even sure when it happened but this happened! The bottom coil in our oven broke. Not just split but into two pieces. When I took it out, it broke into more pieces. Fortunately, I found the part online and ordered it so I can replace it soon and get back to normal cooking. For now, the smaller top oven will have to do.

Nearly perfect

I really like it when dinner comes together so nicely! We all enjoy broccoli cheese soup and we eat it in bread bowls! This time they came out really nicely! Nearly perfect, in fact. Just thought I'd share because it was really yummy!

Doubly delicious!

 Last time I made a blueberry pie from scratch, we all wanted more, so this time I made two pies. They came out perfectly and we really enjoyed them - except that they are still very runny, even after letting them cool. I'll have to adjust that in the recipe and see if I can get it to set up a little more. Either way, they were so yummy!

Newest chore

Took the screen out of the window and the chicken decided it was a good time to jump up! Silly bird. No, they are not the newest chore. They are an old chore and we just keep taking care of them.

This is the newest chore.... digging a trench for the chicken watering system. Last year it froze so we hope to be able to keep it from freezing if we bury it in the ground. Ben is doing a great job at digging the trench - even though he had to cut up this root - so now we just need to get the girls working on their part.
