Not so fun!

Harmonie got the throw-up bug. She was able to get it mostly on the couch and floor, but some times she made it to the toilet or into the bowl. I sure don't like this stuff but she was a big girl about it - just taking it as it came and slept a lot.

(Note: Thurs, Jan 12, was a day I did not capture on film. Emily and Xiomara were both feeling sick and ended up throwing up. Kevin and Ben came home from their early morning routine and both ended up back in bed. Ben eventually threw up but Kevin never did. I had four sick "kids" upstairs and kept the others downstairs to stop the spreading. They mostly slept, or ran to the toilet. Fortunately, by the end of the day they were all feeling much better. I'm so glad it was a quick bug for them.

Also to be noted:  Sunday, Jan 8, Naomi was extra fussing in the middle of the night. She wouldn't settle down for me so I sent Kevin in. She quieted down for a bit but I ended up getting up with her and that when I realized she had thrown up all over one end of her bed and all over herself. I took her downstairs to clean her up and we slept on the couch with a bowl so I could try to catch anymore throw up. I was too slow the next time and she threw up all over me. Bummer. That was about all she had in her tummy but I was faster the next couple of times so it was in the bowl. She did fine at church and was fine that night - except for diarrhea that she had for several days after. She handled it all very well and wasn't too cranky.

It was a tough couple of weeks. I am glad the rest of us missed out on the sickness!)

Just when you think you've made it...

More kids turn up sick. I know it's just that time of year, and really we probably pass around sickness all year long. And I have absolutely no right to complain about any of this because it has really been pretty mild, compared to what it could have been. We've just had fevers, coughs, headaches, sore throats, whole body itchy rash (for one poor child), and today Domonique threw up in her bed during her nap. Instead of coming to get me she just moved to the end of her bed and went back to sleep. Poor thing. They are all tucked in for the night and hopefully they'll sleep well so their bodies can keep fighting whatever sickness it is they are dealing with. Kevin and I got a little something as well, but it passed quickly. It's just so hard to watch the little kids lay around all day because they don't have the energy, strength, or desire to do anything else. Maybe I need to feed them more ice cream!

Enough of that already.

It all started last Wednesday, in the middle of the night. Kemiah woke me up with a complaint about her head hurting and her tummy not feeling well. I sat her on the toilet, even though she said she didn't have to go. She went and then got a drink. Then she threw up the water onto the floor. I quickly faced her to the sink for anything else that might come out. She had a fever of 103.1 so I gave her medicine and hoped it would stay down. It did and she was fine the next day! Saturday she threw up again, without any warning, on the kitchen floor. Oh bother. I put her in the tub while I cleaned up the mess. Then cleaned her up. I hoped that was the end but it was only the beginning. I had intestinal pain on Monday. Domonique threw up Tuesday morning and had a fever of 101.3 in the afternoon. Marissa threw up Tuesday night. Kemiah woke up in the middle of the night with a fever on Wednesday. I was sick all that day, Marissa was recovering, and Ben decided he couldn't be left out so he threw up, too. Today we have all been recovering - trying to eat so we can have energy again. I had a doctor appointment so Kevin came home (a friend was going to watch the kids but I didn't want to spread the sickness) and while I was gone Emily threw up. The only one left is Xiomara. I don't know if she'll give in and throw up tomorrow or maybe we'll be done with all this nonsense! I know this is exactly what you wanted to hear about - but really that's what we've been up to the last week! Of course, we also celebrated Kemiah's 4th birthday on Saturday so maybe I'll work on that post tonight.
