What was that?

We had just listened to a lesson from Benjamin for Family Home Evening. Domonique got up to offer the closing prayer. We were all reverent as she talked to Heavenly Father for us. Then we heard her say, “Please bless the ding dongs.” I have to admit there were a few snickers after that. At the end of the prayer I laughed out loud. Everyone else laughed or smiled. I knew she was talking about the Hostess Ding Dongs that were in the cupboard but it sounded like she was referring to the family as ding dongs. At least she was asking Heavenly Father to bless us.

Anxiety

I woke up this morning to the sounds of my children - same as every morning really. I got the baby up and started my day. I really just did the normal stuff: diapers, bottle, family prayer and scripture reading, breakfast, sorted laundry, and so forth. It was a moment I won't soon forget, when I walked over to help Kemiah with a worksheet and put my hands together - I realized I didn't have my wedding ring on! Wow! I didn't remember ever taking it off. It was as if it just disappeared. I couldn't think of the last time I had it because I couldn't think of a time when I didn't, but it obviously wasn't there now! The kids quickly chimed in with, "where do you last remember having it?" and "did you put lotion on this morning?" I honestly couldn't think of where to look because where would it have gone? I checked the bathroom, the laundry, and the trash can just in case. Nothing. Where do you start looking for something when you have no idea where you lost it? The inspiration came to me to go back to bed. I turned on the light to my room and walked to the bed. There it was, just laying on the bed as if it was waiting for me. I have no idea why it would have come off in bed because I have to tug a bit to get it off. I have no clue but I do know that Heavenly Father was aware and answered our prayers in helping me to look where I needed to look to find my ring.

Answered Prayer

Ben was done with school early so he went outside to shoot his bow and arrows. He shoots at a cardboard box that he drew a target on. Usually it is facing our neighbors yard, open grass. Today, he had it facing the garden. One arrow hit the top of the box and flew over the garden (which is now filled with weeds almost as tall as me). He came inside and asked if I could help him look for it. I finished what I was doing and headed outside. When he told me what happened I was surprised and anxious because I thought there was no way we would be able to find the arrow - he wasn't sure exactly which direction it went. The farmer's soybeans, which are planted in the field behind our garden, are almost waist high to me. I walked to the edge and wondered how we were going to find this one, thin arrow. I said out loud, "Okay, Heavenly Father. Please help us find this arrow." I took a step into the beans, pushing them gently apart so I could see to the ground. Nothing. I took another step farther in and looked to my right as I spread the bean plants apart. There was the red arrow! I held it up for Ben to see and told him that I had just asked Heavenly Father to help and here it was. We agreed that we should thank him so we bowed our heads and I offered a prayer of thanks. What a little thing but it truly was amazing.
