Library crafts

I love it when my kids create some beautiful art work at the library. It really is fun to watch them learn and try new things on their own. Harmonie is pretty independent now, but I still have to tell her which letter to write for her name - but she writes them on her own!

Camdilyn still requires a little extra help but she wants so badly to do it by herself. I let her do as much as possible and she is okay with that.

I did this one with Naomi. The green part is their fingers traced on the paper. She tolerated me holding her hands down and then she was off.

For Memorial Day we made these poppies. They had so much fun gluing down all the torn pieces of paper.

(Note: We gave these flowers to Grammy in a care package for her recovery from surgery in July. She loves to look at them because they are so bright and cheery.)

Mosaics

The kids all really enjoyed doing this art project for school. I think they did a nice job putting them together.

Didn't quite work.

Art class strikes again. This time Kemiah was supposed to melt crayons to make "new" crayons. I wasn't sure I wanted to use a muffin pan (although I should have), so we used metal cookie cutter shapes that I use for crafting. The little girls filled them with crayons of all different colors and then we put them in the oven. Unfortunately, the melted crayons just oozed under the metal shapes and made a mess on the foil. I was able to pour the liquid wax into a popsicle mold to make one ugly crayon. The rest I left on the foil and it dried. I could really make some money selling this new form of art on eBay! Would you buy it?

We might try it again and use the bad muffin pan I have (it burns everything I try to cook in it) and see if we can make some pretty colors. Then again, maybe I could just melt them in the microwave in the plastic popsicle molds that I have. Then again, maybe we can call it good.

Prettiest pinch pot

We made some clay for the kid's school art class. They all made coil pots and pinch pots. I was totally impressed with Marissa's work.

Just thought I'd share.

Art by the older kids

After sharing Kemiah's art projects, I thought I should share what the older three just turned in for their unit projects. They had three options and so that's why they are different. It is fun to watch them be creative and enjoy it - but it does take more time.

Ben created a pendant. He made a paper model, then cut it out of cardboard. The wrapped it in tinfoil, then added the beads and chain. I thought it turned out very nice. The diameter of the circle is 2 inches, just so you can picture the size of it.

Emily and Marissa both chose to make a hat based on a theme. Emily's theme is Summer, and Marissa's hat is birthday. They are so different and unique, just like the artists who created them. Emily made her own flowers, and Marissa made her own decorations. They are getting really good at using different programs on the computer.

They are all learning so much, and I try to learn along with them.
