Children's Zoo

We only go to our zoo when it's free. Imagine my delight when I found out they were having free admission from 3-7 today. Well, I found out before today so I could plan on going. We had an early dinner and I worried about the chilly temperature. We packed into the car and headed out and then it started to rain. I was certainly NOT going to walk around the zoo with little ones if it was raining. The kids all said silent prayers to Heavenly Father to stop the rain and it worked. It was chilly but we had jackets so we survived.

 

It was a cute shot until the two little ones fell.

No ground hogs were out.

I worried about keeping her warm enough.

It was a fun trip to the zoo. Not really very exciting because lots of things were not out due to the cold temperatures. I guess the kids just like getting out and doing things. I like that it was free.

Winter Time at the Zoo

We didn't have snow but it was cold, so the kids had on gloves and hats and coats while we walked around the New Bedford Zoo. One of Kevin's mom's cousins got all the kids in free with her pass and we actually saw lots of animals. We figured it must have been dinner time. We were actually greeted by the river otters, which was really neat. Our cousin also treated the kids to a ride on the carousel - a first for all of them and they enjoyed it (except for Domonique who was ready to get off). Just thought I'd share another fun thing that we did on our vacation.

One of two elephants. They were just standing there, swinging their trunks.

We got a stroller for Domonique, but she wanted to walk some. It was so cute.

The horses head is almost as big as Xiomara, but she was willing to pet it. They all were but if you know how afraid Xiomara is of animals you'll know this is quite a change for her.

I liked seeing all the paired ducks on the pond.

I didn't include a picture of some of the inside things we saw (snakes and fish), or the farm animals (cows, pigs, chickens), or the bobcat, lynx, eagle, raven, deer, turkeys, or a few other things that we saw but you get the idea... It was a fun trip! Thanks Cousin Terry!

Children's Zoo

Yes, we made this trip back in April but I'm just now posting about it. In my defense, I tried posting before but it wouldn't let me add pictures - and what good is a post about a visit to the Zoo without pictures?! Anyway, here I am getting it done and I'm sure you will feel better, as I do. Of course, our Zoo is not like what you think of when you think ZOO. We don't have giraffes, elephants, rhinos, zebras, lions, tigers and bears. No, no. We have cows, llamas, goats, Clydesdale horses, miniature horses, emus, kangaroos, eagles, white wolves, some kind of monkey, alligator, penguins, peacocks, coy fish, ducks, and a sand pit where the kids can dig and play while looking for fake fossils. Oh, we also have a train and a merry-go-round that you can ride for free if you have a membership or you can pay a few dollars each time they want to ride. I'm thinking the membership would be good because we can save lots of money if we go more than 2 times during the year. Besides, the kids like petting the animals and feeding the horses. Even Xiomara (who was afraid of our little baby chicks when we first got them) was reaching out and touching the horse. The day we went was really perfect and we had a great time just walking around, seeing the animals and playing. And it was a free day so that was even better!

Marissa was happy to pet a cow but none my other kids would. We saw lots of cows on the island but they didn't want to be touched so I guess she was really happy to finally touch one.

Kevin had a headache after our trip to the Castle Museum so he went home and kept Kemiah with him so she could take a nap. I just had these four kids.

So that's it. Thanks for enjoying our trip. As I finished this up Kemiah was sitting on my lap and when she saw a picture of the kids all together she asked, "Where's me?" I just thought it was cute that she wondered why she wasn't in the picture.
